The students of St. Athanasius will be doing the “Shoebox Project” again this year! This program is sponsored by the Waterloo Rotary Club. St Athanasius has committed to filling 40 boxes for the “Children of the Dump”. The boxes will be packed at school and eventually delivered to needy, orphaned children in Chinandega, Nicaragua. This is a very worthy cause and we encourage all students/families to participate.
Due to Covid-19, we are doing things a bit differently this year. We are asking each family to fill the portion of the box consisting of necessities and fun items. Here is the shopping list. We are asking that families do their best to purchase as many items from their lists as they can. We are looking for all the items on the “Necessities” list; and then pick 2 or more items from the “Fun” list. We anticipate the total cost for these items to be between $10 and $20 per box, depending on the items chosen. If you prefer to give a cash donation in lieu of shopping, we do have volunteers who are willing to shop for us.
All items or cash donations need to be brought to school by Friday, August 28 (or sooner) so the boxes can be packed. There will be out-of-uniform passes for Early Bird students/families who bring their items to school on or before Wednesday, August 26. Please mark your shopping bag with your family’s name!
We understand that there are families who are struggling with the many challenges that this pandemic brings to our lives and are encouraging each family to do what you can! The Waterloo Rotary Club has indicated that the need is greater than ever this year! Thank you in advance for your continued support of this very worthy cause!
Please direct any questions you may have regarding this project to Jeannine Zuck, Shoebox Project Coordinator, at 319-404-8994!
Thank you for participating!
